BUILD
CULTURE
STEP
SIX
Make Healthy Leadership The Normal Way You Operate.
Every church has a culture, whether it has intentionally built one or not.
Culture is shaped by what leaders model, what teams celebrate, what behaviors get rewarded, what problems the organization confronts, and s willi’s willing to tolerate. Over time, those repeated behaviors teach people how things really work around here.
That's why organizational health can't stop with fixing individual problems.
Build Culture takes the principles established throughout the Church Health System and begins turning them into normal organizational behavior. This stage helps leaders establish shared expectations, strengthen accountability, create healthier meetings, increase transparency, and build systems that reinforce the kind of culture they actually want.
The goal isn't to create a perfect culture. It's to become intentional about the culture you're creating.
Because eventually, what you repeatedly practice becomes who you are.
Culture Building Tools
-

Church Culture "Barn" Covenant
Define how we're going to work together.
The Barn Covenant establishes shared commitments for how leaders and teams will communicate, collaborate, handle conflict, support one another, and protect the health of the organization. It turns cultural values into behaviors people can actually understand, practice, and hold one another accountable to.
-

Healthy Meeting Playbook
Make meetings strengthen the organization, not drain it.
Meetings shape culture more than we often realize. The Healthy Meeting Playbook establishes practical expectations for preparing, leading, participating in, and following up on meetings so they produce clarity, accountability, healthy conversation, and meaningful decisions.
-

Organizational Health Dashboard
Keep organizational health visible.
What leaders consistently pay attention to tends to receive attention throughout the organization. The Organizational Health Dashboard gives leadership a simple way to monitor key indicators of organizational health, identify emerging concerns, and keep important issues from disappearing beneath the urgency of everyday ministry.
-

Measure What Matters Scorecard
Measure what actually reflects your mission and health.
Churches naturally measure attendance, giving, participation, and other visible numbers. Those things matter, but they don't tell the whole story. The Measuring What Matters Scorecard helps leaders identify the indicators that reveal whether people, teams, ministries, and culture are actually becoming healthier.
The Outcome of “Build Culture.”
The real test of organizational health isn't what happens during a retreat, consulting engagement, or leadership initiative.
It's what continues happening when no one is reminding people to do it.
Build Culture helps move healthy leadership from something you occasionally talk about to the way your organization actually operates. Clear expectations become habits. Accountability becomes normal. Healthy conflict becomes possible. Meetings become productive. Transparency becomes safer. Leaders begin reinforcing the same behaviors throughout the organization.
Eventually, healthy practices stop feeling like a new initiative.
They simply become the way we do things here.
“A culture reveals its true values not by what it teaches, but by what happens to those who practice honesty and accountability.”
